Ether 4-7

To be discussed March 22

1. Read Ether 4:1-10, with chapter headnote.

Who is speaking in this passage of scripture? What did he say we must do in order to obtain the sealed portion of his record? What kind of faith is required if we desire to receive the revelations received by the brother of Jared?

2. Read Ether 4:11-19.

How does the Lord describe Himself in Ether 4:12? To whom does the Lord beckon in Ether 4:13-14 and 18? When will Israel know that the Father remembers His covenant with them?

3. Read Ether 5:1-6, with D&C 27:5.

List the things and people that will stand as a testimony against the world at the last day. When will we recognize Moroni's authority?

4. Read Ether 6:1-11.

How much faith would it take for the people of Jared to get aboard their vessels and commend (or entrust) themselves to the Lord? How is their journey a "type" of our mortal existence? From Ether 6:9, what did the people do during their journey?

5. Read Ether 6:12-30.

What did the people of Jared do immediately after disembarking? According to Ether 6:17, how were the people taught to walk? What was the desire of the people regarding their government? Who was Orihah and how did he reign?

6. Read Ether 7:1-12.

How did Corihor draw people to him? What qualities made Corihor's younger brother Shule an effective leader?

7. Read Ether 7:13-27.

Who was Noah? How and why did he die? How did Shule reestablish peace among his people?

BONUS: How might Moroni have felt as he read and edited the history of the Jaredites?
