3 Nephi 16-18

To be discussed December 14

1. Begin by reviewing 3 Nephi 15:24, then continue reading through 3 Nephi16:1-7.

[Note: 3 Nephi 16 continues direction from the Lord to His twelve New World apostles.] With whom did the Savior still need to visit? Why was it important for the disciples in America to record His sayings?

2. Read 3 Nephi 16:8-20.

When will the Lord take away the fulness of His gospel from among the Gentiles? Identify promises to God's covenant people as listed in 3 Nephi 16:11-20.

BONUS: In the headnote to 3 Nephi 16, paraphrasing Isaiah 52:8 (quoted by the Lord in 3 Nephi 16:18-20), it says, "The Lord's people shall see eye to eye when he brings again Zion." What does it mean to "see eye to eye," and when will the Lord bring again Zion?

3. Read 3 Nephi 17:1-10.

From 3 Nephi 17:1, to whom did the Savior address His counsel in this chapter? List four things Jesus asked His listeners to DO before He returned the next day. Why did He stay?

4. Read 3 Nephi 17:11-25.

Although we don't know the words Jesus used as He prayed (see 3 Nephi 17:15), what DO we know about His prayer? Remembering that Jesus was still addressing the survivors of great calamities as they gathered at the temple in Bountiful, list the blessings of temple attendance that day.

5. Read 3 Nephi 18:1-14.

What are the "if - then" or cause and effect statements in 3 Nephi 18:7, 11, 12, and 14? Why were the Nephites instructed in how to administer the sacrament and commanded to continue this ordinance after the Lord left?

6. Read 3 Nephi 18:15-25.

Give three instructions on prayer given to the Nephites in 3 Nephi 18:15-25.

7. Read 3 Nephi 18:26-39.

What further instruction did the Lord give his twelve regarding the ordinance of administering His sacrament?

BONUS: What do you think the Lord meant when he said, "I know my sheep, and they are numbered"?
