Jarom and Omni

To be discussed May 12

1. Read Jarom 1:1-7. List ways in which Jarom's people showed their obedience. What were the fruits of their obedience?

2. Read Jarom 1:8-15. How did prophets and priests help prevent destruction among the Nephites? List words from Jarom 1:11 that indicate this was not an easy task.

3. Read Omni 1:1-8. Why and how were a large number of Nephites destroyed during the lifetimes of Omni and Amaron?

4. Read Omni 1:9-11. Why do you think Chemish and Abinadom were so brief in their writings? What details do we learn from them?

5. Read Omni 1:12-18. Where did the people of Zarahemla come from, and how did they get to the Americas? Why were they so happy to see the plates of brass?

6. Read Omni 1:19-23. How was Mosiah able to translate the engravings on the large stone? What did Mosiah learn from these writings that confirmed what prophets before him had written about the responsibility of those who the Lord brings to the Americas?

7. Read Omni 1:24-30. How did the record kept by prophets on the small plates come under the care of the kings of the land? What parting counsel did Amaleki give to future generations?
