The Book of Mormon: Another Witness

1 Nephi 13-15

1. Read 1 Nephi 13:1-18 (with chapter headnote). List the things Nephi saw in vision (vv. 1-7). What was the purpose of the great and abominable church? (Substitute "kingdom" or "organization" for the word "church." No specific church or denomination is implied.) 

 

 

BONUS: Who might have been the man among the Gentiles, who crossed many waters (v.12)? Who might the other Gentiles have been?

 

 

2. Read 1 Nephi 13:19-33. What book, containing the record of the Jews, did Nephi see in vision? What did he learn about this book? Why might this vision have been important to Nephi?

 

 

3. Read 1 Nephi 13:34-43. How many times in 1 Nephi 13:34-35 do you find the words, "saith the Lamb"? What is the message from the Lamb of God (Christ) to us in 1 Nephi 13:34-42?

 

 

4. Read 1 Nephi 14:1-14 (with chapter headnote). 1 Nephi 14:1 begins a long IF - THEN passage. List first what the Lord requires of us, then list the promised blessings if we are faithful, from 1 Nephi 14:1-14.

 

 

5. Read 1 Nephi 14:15-30. When will the work of the Father commence, in preparing the way for the fulfilling of His covenants with Israel?

 

 

BONUS: Read 1 Nephi 14:18-24. Which apostle of the Lamb, who would write concering the end of the world, was seen by Nephi in vision? (Hint: see chapter 14 headnote.) 

 

 

6. Read 1 Nephi 15:1-20. Why was Nephi "grieved" after he returned to the tent of his father? What question did Nephi ask his brethren in 1 Nephi 15:8?

7. Read 1 Nephi 15:21-31. How many questions did Nephi's brethren ask him in 1 Nephi 15:21-31? How was Nephi able to answer their questions?
