2 Nephi 25-26

To be discussed March 3

In your reading, try to identify doctrines of Christ by looking for the main message of the writer. In other words, what basic principle(s) of the gospel might the writer want you to recognize and apply in your own life? What is his purpose in writing?

1. Read 2 Nephi 25:1-9. Why didn't Nephi teach his people about the Jews? Why did he include passages from Isaiah's writings on the brass plates with his own writings? Who does Nephi say will understand these writings?

2. Read 2 Nephi 25:10-20, Nephi's message to the Jews. Why did the Jews at Jerusalem reject the Savior when he came in the meridian of time? How will the Jews eventually be convinced that Jesus Christ is the Messiah they anticipated for thousands of years?

3. Read 2 Nephi 25:21-30, the first part of Nephi's message to the children of Lehi, and Bible Dictionary entry, "Grace." What is the doctrine of grace, as described in the Bible Dictionary? Why did Nephi talk of, rejoice in, and preach of Christ?

4. Read 2 Nephi 26:1-11, the second part of Nephi's message to the children of Lehi. List warnings and promises in this passage of scripture. How much of the future of Nephi's posterity did he see in vision?

5. Read 2 Nephi 26:12-19, the first part of Nephi's message to the Gentiles. From 2 Nephi 26:14-16, what time period did Nephi describe? How do the prophets speak "out of the ground"?

6. Read 2 Nephi 26:20-27, a continuation of Nephi's message to the Gentiles. From 2 Nephi 26:20, against what specific sin did Nephi warn the Gentiles? List the ways Nephi said it would  manifest itself among them (us)?

7. Read 2 Nephi 26:28-33, a continuation of Nephi's message to the Gentiles. List the elements of priestcraft, as described by Nephi in 2 Nephi 26:29. From chapters 25-26, give as many examples as you can of Nephi expounding on the themes from Lehi's vision of the tree of life.
