2 Nephi 27-28

- To be discussed March 10

In your reading, try to identify doctrines of Christ by looking for the main message of the writer. In other words, what basic principle(s) of the gospel might the writer want you to recognize and apply in your own life? What is his purpose in writing?

1. Read 2 Nephi 27:1-8 with chapter headnote. 2 Nephi 27 gives us the last of Isaiah's writings as quoted by Nephi from Isaiah 29. Who will be "drunken with iniquity" in the last days? (Note: see 2 Nephi 27:1 and 4-5.) What will happen to all who fight against Zion?  Why?

2. Read 2 Nephi 27:9-20; JS-H 1:64-65. According to 2 Nephi 27:10, what is contained in the sealed portion of the Nephite record? How can we "read upon the house tops" the portion of the Book of Mormon we now have?

3. Read 2 Nephi 27:21-35. according to 2 Nephi 27:23, how does the Lord accomplish his marvelous works among the children of men? List some of those marvelous works and wonders from 2 Nephi 27:28-35.

4. Read 2 Nephi 28:1-8 with chapter headnote. 2 Nephi 28 contains many of Satan's tactics in the latter days. What has been the adversary's "game plan" from the beginning? (Note: see Moses 4:1,4.) List as many "tactics" of Satan as you can find in 2 Nephi 28:1-8.

5. Read 2 Nephi 28:9-15. Again, find elements of the adversary's "game plan" in 2 Nephi 28:9-15. How many times is the word "pride" used in 2 Nephi 28:9-15?

6. Read 2 Nephi 28:16-23. List Satan's tactics as described in 2 Nephi 28:16-23. How does Satan "rage in the hearts of the children of men" today? Give the two main categories of deceit described in 2 Nephi 28:21-23.

7. Read 2 Nephi 28:24-32. How many "wo"s can you find in 2 Nephi 28:24-32? List warnings from these verses, and the promise of 2 Nephi 28:32.
