The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ and teaches us how to become His disciples. As you study the Book of Mormon and are prayerful, the Holy Ghost continually bears witness to your heart and mind of the Savior's divine role as the Redeemer of mankind. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles wrote that the Book of Mormon "should be considered the most remarkable and important religious text to be revealed since the writings of the New Testament were compiled nearly two millennia ago." This sacred book is another testimony, or witness, of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and His unbounded love.
These study guides have been published as an online support for scripture study classes held weekly in the Penasquitos Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From September 2015 to May 2016 we will study approximately the first third of the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi - Omni, also known as the "small plates of Nephi." By reading short selections from the Book of Mormon and answering a few thoughtful questions, we hope to gain greater insight into Christ's doctrines and enjoy unity of spirit. Classes meet Thursday mornings and evenings to discuss the week's readings. See Class Schedule for more details.
As we read the Book of Mormon this year, we will look specifically for the doctrines of Christ. President Henry B. Eyring said, "Doctrine gains its power as the Holy Ghost confirms that it is true.... Truth can prepare its own way. Simply hearing the words of doctrine can plant the seed of faith in the heart. And even a tiny seed of faith in Jesus Christ invites the Spirit." (CR April 1999.) To read our stake theme regarding understanding and living the doctrines, go to The Doctrine of Christ.
