2 Nephi 4-5

To be discussed December 10

As you read this passage, please look for doctrines of Christ. Underline, note, or record as you read key doctrines.

1. Read 2 Nephi 4:1-7. To whom did Lehi address this portion of his final blessing? What was his heartfelt desire for these people?

2. Read 2 Nephi 4:8-14. List the groups who received Lehi's blessing in these verses, and what blessings he left them. Why were Laman, Lemuel, and the sons of Ishmael angry with Nephi?

3. Read 2 Nephi 4:15-25. 2 Nephi 4:15 introduces the Psalm of Nephi and gives keys to several themes. In what did Nephi delight? Why did Nephi grieve in 2 Nephi 4:17-19? How did he find peace? How might we follow Nephi's example?

4. Read 2 Nephi 4:26-35. In 2 Nephi 4:26-27, Nephi asks himself several questions. In asking and answering these questions, Nephi relies on his memory of the Lord's tender mercies. How can you adapt these questions to strengthen your own faith?

BONUS: List Nephi's requests to the Lord from 2 Nephi 4:31-33. What covenant did Nephi make with the Lord, as recorded in 2 Nephi 4:34?

5. Read 2 Nephi 5:1-12. For what did Nephi pray in 2 Nephi 5:1? List ways in which the Lord answered Nephi's prayers.

6. Read 2 Nephi 5:13-19. What steps did Nephi take to ensure the physical and spiritual safety of his people? Why do you think Nephi didn't want to be a king?

7. Read 2 Nephi 5:20-34. How were the habits of the Lamanites a direct consequence of the withdrawal of the Lord's spirit? What caused the withdrawal of the Lord's spirit? Review all of 2 Nephi 5 and list reasons why Nephi's people were happy.
