Study Guide

1. Read the Bible Dictionary entry, "Zechariah." How many visions did Zechariah record in chapters 1-5 of Zechariah? What was the purpose of these visions? What is the theme of chapters 9-14?

BONUS: Make a list of the visions of Zechariah with key elements and symbols.

2. Read Zechariah 1:7-21. What did the Lord promise in verses 16-17? What did the four horns in Zechariah's vision represent?

3. Read Zechariah 3:1-10 (with footnotes 1b, c, 5a, 7c). What was Satan's purpose in standing at the right hand of Joshua, the high priest? How might Joshua have felt, standing before the angel of the Lord in filthy garments? What was done for Joshua, and what promises were made contingent on his faithfulness?

4. Read Zechariah 4:1-14 (review notes in BD, "Zechariah"). What was the mission of the children of Israel when they returned from the Babylonian captivity? How is this similar to the mission of the Church today?

5. Read Zechariah 8:11-23 (with footnotes 13b, 14a, 23a). List promises to Judah. What is required for these blessings to be fulfilled?

6. Read Zechariah 9:9-17, Matthew 21:4-11. How was Zechariah's prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 fulfilled during the Savior's earthly ministry? From Zechariah 9:11-12, how will the prisoners be freed from the pit? Who are the prisoners of hope?

7. Read Zechariah 10:1-4; Zechariah 12:1-3, 9-16; Zechariaha 13:4-9; Zechariah 14:1-4, 9, 16-21. How will the mercy and judgments of God be revealed at the Second Coming of Christ?
