Minor Prophets 1:

Joel, Amos, Hosea, Micah

1. Read Bible Dictionary entry, "Joel," Joel 2:12-27 (with footnotes 13b, 14a, 16a, 18b, 24a). What does the Lord invite his covenant people to DO in Joel 2:12-16? Now list promised blessings to the faithful in Joel 2:12-27.

2. Read JS-H 1:41, Joel 2:28-32. What did Moroni say about these verses? List promises to the faithful in Joel 2:28-32. What do these blessings tell you about the Lord's commitment to his covenant people? From Joel 2:32, who will be delivered?

3. Read Bible Dictionary entry, "Amos," Amos 3:1-8 (with footnotes 2a, 5a, 6b, 7a), Amos 5:11-15. How is the Lord's word like a lion's roar? Like a snare? Like a trumpet? From Amos 5:11-15, name one measurable way we can seek good and hate evil.

BONUS: What phrase is repeated 5 times in Amos 4:6-13?

4. Read Amos 7:6-9 (with footnote 6a), Amos 8:11, Amos 9:9-15 (with footnote 10a). In Amos 7:6-9, why might the Lord use a plumbline in the midst of Israel? What might the plumbline represent? From Amos 8:11, what happens when a people reject the prophets? List messages of hope from Amos 9:9-15.

5. Read Bible Dictionary entry, "Hosea," Hoseah 3, Hoseah 5:1-9 (with footnotes 4a, 7a, 8a) and Hosea 8:1-9 (with footnotes 1a, 4a, 5b). Remembering the symbolism of a bride groom (Christ) and his bride (covenant Israel, or the Church), how had Israel behaved like a harlot? Who were the strange children she brought forth? How is what Hosea did for Gomer like what the Lord does for Israel?

6. Read Hosea 13:9-16 (with footnote 14f), and Hosea 14:1-9 (with footnote 3a). Who destroyed Israel? List verbs that indicate what the Lord is willing to do for his people.

7. Read Bible Dictionary entry, "Micah," Micah 2:1-13, Micah 4:1-4. List some of the social injustices condemned by Micah in Micah 2:1-11. What promises follow in Micah 2:12-13? Micah 4:1-4?

BONUS: Read Micah 5:1-4 (with footnote 4a) and Micah 6:8. From Micah 5:1-4, what did Micah know about the coming Messiah? From Micah 6:8, what must we do to become acceptable in God's sight?
