NOTE: Ezekiel 1-2 describe Ezekiel's call to be a prophet to Israel in exile, and describe his specific assignment among the Jews in Babylon.
1. Read the Bible Dictionary entry, "Ezekiel," and Ezekiel 1:1-9, 26-28, and Ezekiel 2:1-10. What does Ezekiel's name mean? What was he called to do? From Ezekiel 2:3-7, list labels the Lord used in describing His covenant people at that time.
BONUS: Read Ezekiel 3:1-6. Why did Ezekiel need to eat the roll?
2. Read Ezekiel 5:1-17. Why was Ezekiel instructed to shave his head and beard and divide that hair into thirds? From Ezekiel 5:6-7 and 11, what sins were pronounced upon Judah?
3. Read Ezekiel 11:1-20. In the first 15 verses of chapter 11, Ezekiel sees in vision 25 false leaders in Jerusalem, and prophesies concerning the judgments to come. Ezekiel 11:16-20 gives hope of a future gathering. List promised blessings from Ezekiel 11:16-20.
4. Read Ezekiel 20:1-22, 33-44. From verses 1-22, list the specific sins of Israel which have resulted in the fierce wrath of the Lord. From verses 33-44, how will the Lord gather His people?
5. Read Ezekiel 34:1-31 (with footnote 17c). From Ezekiel 34:2, who were the "shepherds of Israel"? Who did they feed? What will the Lord, the Good Shepherd, do for his flock? (See verses 11-31.)
6. Read Ezekiel 37:1-27. From Ezekiel 37:1-14, why will the Lord open the graaves and bring forth Israel? Is this prophecy literal or figurative? List promises from Ezekiel 37:15-28.
7. Read Ezekiel 40:1-4, Ezekiel 44:4-9, and Ezekiel 47:1-2 with the chapter heading. Chapters 40-48 of Ezekiel describe the prophet's vision of the Lord's temple in the last days and the millennial reign of Christ. From Ezekiel 40:1-4, what do we know about Ezekiel's tour guide? From Ezekiel 44:4-9, what happened to Ezekiel when he beheld the glory of the Lord? From Ezekiel 47:1-12, what is the significance of the water that issued out from under the eastern door of the temple?
