1. Read the chapter heading for Matthew 13 and Matthew 13:1-2. List the parables recorded in this chapter. Where was the Savior when he taught these parables?

 

 

2. Read Matthew 13:47. To what is the kingdom of heaven compared in this parable? Why is this an apt comparison?

 

 

3. Read Matthew 13:48-50. Why must there be a sorting? Who is tasked with this sorting?

 

 

4. Read the chapter heading for Luke 12, and Luke 12:1 and 34-38. What is the setting for the parable of the Watching Servants? Who did Jesus suggest his disciples emulate? What reward was promised?

 

 

5. Read Luke 12:39-41 and Matthew 24:43-51. Why would the Lord compare himself to a thief in the night? See also D&C 106:4-5.

 

 

6. Read Luke 12:42-44 and Mark 13:34-37. What question did Peter ask in Luke 12:42? What was the first part of the Savior's answer? How did Jesus address this issue in Mark 13:34-37?

 

 

7. Read Luke 12:45-48. List the warnings in the second part of Jesus' answer.

 

 

BONUS: Read JST Luke 12:41-57. Using this passage and all the others you studied regarding these parables, how are the parables of the Gospel Net and the Watching Servants similar? In other words, what theme do they have in common?
